Beautiful Smiles Can be Restored After a Tooth Extraction

There are Ways to Bridge the Gap after Teeth Extractions

A tooth extraction (also known as exodontia) is a last resort action taken to remedy severe tooth damage. Dr. Mark Phillipe, DDS, and Derek B. Hauser, DDS, have performed this procedure on many patients for 30 years.

Lakefront Family Dentistry specializes in preventive care and helps families all over Riverside County achieve excellent oral health.

What Can I Expect from a Tooth Extraction Procedure at Lakefront Family Dentistry?

Call us at (951) 244-9495 and schedule a consultation with our experienced dentists to discuss the best course of action for your individual condition. The sooner you come in, we just might be able to save your tooth!

When is Tooth Extraction Necessary?

During your appointment at Lakefront Family Dentistry, Dr. Phillipe and Dr. Hauser will perform a thorough exam to determine whether this is the best option. Often, a crown or filling can be done instead of any teeth extractions. However, there are instances where advanced decay or mouth infection makes removal necessary.

Here are other reasons:

  • To remove extra teeth blocking others from coming in
  • Mouth infection from cancer medications that weaken the immune system
  • Extensive decay or damage
  • Advanced gum disease
  • Poor alignment and positioning that cause pain and effect growth
  • Required for orthodontic treatment success

Dental Implant

Before the science of implant dentistry, the only replacement options after teeth extraction were dentures and bridges. Nowadays, the empty socket can be replaced with an artificial dental root, which is permanently placed in or on the jawbone.

The root is made from titanium, which is designed to fuse well with the bone. After successful placement and fusion of the new implant, it will serve as an anchor for a porcelain crown or other restorative option.

Porcelain Crown

Often used in conjunction with an implant, a crown made from porcelain is a natural looking tooth replacement. An advanced system called CEREC has given practitioners around the country the means to create flawless dental replacements.

Lakefront Family Dentistry is proud to be one of only a few facilities in the Inland Empire to offer the advanced services rendered with the CEREC solution. This system allows Dr. Phillipe and Dr. Hauser to offer cosmetic restoration services, which are permanently placed in just one visit.

Tooth Bridge

A bridge is made from porcelain and literally bridges “the gap.” This restorative option is designed to render flawless, natural looking transformations. Our dentists often recommend this treatment if you are missing one or two teeth.

In order to be a viable option, the surrounding teeth should be in good shape, as they will be used as an anchor for the actual tooth replacement. If this corrective procedure is a good choice, we will discuss this during the consultation appointment.

Ways to Prevent Tooth Loss

  • Schedule regular exams twice a year
  • Brush twice daily and floss after meals
  • Use an ADA approved electric toothbrush
  • Eat healthy, well balanced meals
