Do Porcelain Veneers Work?

An In-Depth Look Into the Risks and Benefits of Dental Veneers

Porcelain veneers, also called dental veneers, are a great way to beautify your smile while fixing crooked or broken teeth. During the procedure, a dentist will use your natural tooth form to create a custom porcelain shell to cover the tooth. As a result, you’ll enjoy a brighter, straighter and cleaner-looking smile!

Porcelain veneers can correct almost any unsightly flaw in your teeth, boosting your confidence and filling in embarrassing gaps that can cause frustration and anxiety.

How Does Porcelain Veneer Placement Work?

Placing the dental veneers is a process that requires a great deal of skill and precision. It takes a talented and artistic-minded cosmetic dentist to place the veneers perfectly and evenly. If you’re located in the Inland Empire, contact Lakefront Family Dentistry and make an appointment to meet with Dr. Derek B. Hauser, DDS, today. He has extensive experience with porcelain veneer treatments and other cosmetic dentistry procedures. Contact his office at (951) 244-9495 or Request an Appointment Online Today!

You can also call our office and ask for one of our Patient Coordinators, Jodi or Carla, who will be more than happy to answer any of your questions and discuss insurance options as well. We also offer financing through a reputable third-party and give a cash discount for patients without insurance.

If you’ve decided that a dental veneers treatment is right for you, the first appointment would go something like this:

  • Dr. Hauser will examine your teeth, discuss your goals and explain the benefits that porcelain veneers can bring to your smile.
  • Digital x-rays are made and a simple impression of your tooth/teeth will be made.
  • Your current teeth are shaped and contoured to make room for your new veneers.
  • Your new veneers are made the same day with Lakefront Family Dentistry’s in-house lab using CEREC technology.

Once your permanent set of veneers is made using our CEREC lab at our practice, your new veneers will be fitted with a final shape and placed on your existing teeth. Dr. Hauser ensures your comfort the entire time. Some patients even fall asleep during his procedures. By the end of the appointment, you’ll be leaving the office with a bright and beautiful smile!

What Are the Benefits of Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain or dental veneers provide the recipient with a range of great benefits, which include:

  • Create a natural-looking smile
  • Durable and long lasting
  • Stain resistant
  • Correct major flaws and blemishes on your teeth
  • Customized to fit any tooth shape or size and restore strength and functionality

Are There Any Risks Involved?

As with any cosmetic treatment, there may be some risk, but with this particular procedure, the rate of complications is extremely low—virtually non-existent. One rare occurrence is minor tooth sensitivity following the placement of the veneers, but this generally subsides within 24 to 48 hours.

Before you follow through with the procedure, it is important that you discuss your medical history and ask the dentist any questions or address any concerns you may have, because after the veneers are attached, it is a difficult procedure to reverse.

What is the Cost of Porcelain Veneer Placement?

The cost of this procedure depends on the number of teeth that require adjustment. Although treatment may seem expensive, it is a one-time investment that provides immediate results. Unlike other cosmetic procedures, veneers are durable and long lasting. Most porcelain veneers will last up to 20 years.

If veneers are not currently in your budget, you may want to consider alternative treatments like teeth whitening. Procedures like this cost less, but they require repeat visits to maintain results. However, teeth whitening will not provide the more dramatic, long-term aesthetic improvements offered by porcelain veneers. It’s a great alternative solution though.
